President Obama Doesn’t Support SOPA, But Signs ACTA?

Move over SOPA, tell ACTA the news? Or is this more of a case of “move over SOPA, it’s ACTA time?” Or does, “Stop! ACTA time!” work? For me, it’s “just when you thought it was safe to go back on the web, ACTA happens.” That’s right folks, while SOPA/PIPA were being placed in the ditch as smoldering husks, President Obama signed the ACTA “treaty,” which is, at its most elementary, a multinational agreement that addresses intellectual property enforcement.
There are many issues involved with President Obama’s signing of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement — which occurred in September 2011 — and whether or not it should be treated as an executive agreement or an actual treaty between the agreeing countries. With an executive agreement, the President does not require the approval of the Senate, whereas, with a treaty, Senate approval is required. That, however, is not the issue, especially when you consider the initial zeal with which the both houses of the U.S. Government supported SOPA and PIPA.
Until the protestation blackouts, that is.
As for ACTA, there hasn’t been a great deal of push back from the Senate concerning President Obama’s signature, although, perhaps there should be. As TechDirt points out:
The law is clear that the only things that can be covered by executive agreements are things that involve items that are solely under the President’s mandate. That is, you can’t sign an executive agreement that impacts the things Congress has control over. But here’s the thing: intellectual property, in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, is an issue given to Congress, not the President.
Does this mean President Obama overstepped his boundaries by signing ACTA? If you follow the letter of the law, as laid out by TechDirt, then yes, yes he did.
Perhaps that what explains one of the latest White House petitions, asking for ACTA to be submitted to the Senate for “Ratification as Required by the Constitution for Trade Agreements.” As you can see, the petition takes the position that ACTA is indeed a treaty and because of that, President Obama’s signature is not enough for the United States to be apart of. From the petition’s page:
The Administration has opposed SOPA and PIPA due to the damage these laws could do to the Internet. But many view the Anti-Counterfeiting Trace Agreement (ACTA) to be far worse.
This Administration supported the negotiation of ACTA in secret with a selected group of nations and with input from many corporate interests. The public and consumers were excluded from this process. FOIA requests were denied because of “National Security” concerns.
We object to the Administration’s negotiation of ACTA in secret, and approval of ACTA by Executive Agreement.

…The fact that President Obama signed such an inflammatory piece of legislation is disheartening. Does this mean the only reason the White House spoke out against the infamous acts was because the backlash was so loud? Does this also mean that because the American public, or, at least, those who “reside” on the Internet, is still largely silent concerning ACTA and the potential damage it can do, President Obama didn’t see the harm in signing it?
Of course, if ACTA does have to go to the Senate before its ratified, will it meet any resistance? Any at all?

Despite the USDA gave approval to Monsanto for a drought resistant GMO corn. Now, companies are petitioning for more products. One of them is a GMO corn variety that is tolerant of 2,4-D, a component (50%) of Agent Orange. The GMO war on weeds through chemical proliferation is not working. Using stronger chemicals and new GMO varieties to tolerate them leads to more resistant super weeds as well as health problems for people where the chemicals are being used and for people who eat the crops. Farmers need to get back the time-honored mechanical methods of controlling weeds. Approval of a drought resistant GMO variety might be based on ignorant-but-good intentions, but approval of GMO varieties that tolerate more and stronger chemicals obviously would have no redeeming value. People die each day from Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam. Now, they will also die from eating foods that have been sprayed with it. Stop Agent Orange Corn & Soy
2,4-D was half the formula of Agent Orange, the infamous defoliant used in the Vietnam War that killed thousands of Vietnamese civilians and American soldiers, and remains a source of birth defects and cancer these many years later.
2,4-D remains in use on U.S. farms today. In April, the Environmental Protection Agency rejected a petition filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council to ban the herbicide. The group cited various studies showing that exposure to 2,4-D could cause cancer, hormone disruption, genetic mutations and neurotoxicity. It also argued that the EPA underestimated how much people, especially children, might be exposed to the chemical. 2-4,D is one of the most widely used weed killers in the world and an ingredient of numerous home lawn-care products.
In rejecting NRDC’s petition, the agency relied on a study conducted by Dow Chemical, the major manufacturer of 2,4-D, to rebut other studies which had shown 2,4-D disrupted hormone activity. The EPA dismissed studies that have shown a higher risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma among farmers who use the chemical, claiming the farmers might have been exposed to many things, making it difficult to state that 2,4-D was the cause.
Dow plans to increase sales of the herbicide by selling seeds of corn and soy genetically engineered to be resistant to 2,4-D. Currently, 2,4-D is not used much on corn, the nation’s most widely grown crop.
Dow is currently seeking permission from the EPA to use 2,4-D on its new genetically engineered corn and soy. Please take action to stop EPA from expanding the use of 2,4-D.

On the 35th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling, Norma McCorvey (a.k.a. “Jane Roe,” who later changed her views on abortion in the mid-90s) gave Paul her official endorsement today.
“I support Ron Paul for president because we share the same goal, that of overturning Roe v. Wade. He has never wavered on the issue of being pro-life and has a voting record to prove it. In the past, many in the pro-life movement have felt limited to protecting a life here and there — passing some limited law to slightly control abortion in the more outrageous cases.
But some pro-lifers always seem to tiptoe around the Supreme Court, hoping they won’t be offended.
Now the time to grovel before the Supreme Court is over.

When the Supreme Court handed down its now-infamous Roe v. Wade decision, it did so based on a new, previously undefined “right of privacy” which it “discovered” in so-called “emanations” of “penumbrae” of the Constitution.
Of course, as constitutional law it was a disaster.
But never once did the Supreme Court declare abortion itself to be a constitutional right.
Instead the Supreme Court said:
“We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins . . . the judiciary at this point in the development of man’s knowledge is not in a position to speculate as to the answer.”
Then the High Court made a key admission:
“If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case [i.e., “Roe” who sought an abortion], of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life is then guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment.”
The fact is, the 14th Amendment couldn’t be clearer:
“. . . nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law, nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law.”
Furthermore, the 14th Amendment says:
“Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.”
That’s exactly what a Life at Conception Act would do.
But this simple, logical and obviously right legislation will not become law without a fight.
And that’s where your help is critical.

A story in Life Site News stats that a bio-medical firm has removed from their websites, their partners in using HEK-293 (human embryo kidney cells in their R&D department for flavorings added to soft drinks.
Their partner is Pepsi Company amongst others who’s names are hidden from the public.
The backlash from Pro-Life groups has produced this response from Pepsi:
” with respect to the flavor discovery research with Senomyx, we utilize techniques that have been the gold standard for several decades”.
Therefore, consumers have been drinking human embryo kidney cells (usually derived from human fetuses) for the past 20 or 30 or more years and didn’t even know it?
Is this the kind of bio-medical- science fictional advancements that science has produced? Kidney cells in your Pepsi?
Obviously, this is another story not making the headlines in the main stream media when stories like the Kardashian sisters dominate the news who can blame them for covering such vital information?
The gold standard in soft drinks is: Human Kidney Cells for flavoring a soft drink? Hormones or cells ingested from other humans, sets up a negative immune response and is totally unnecessary to be used in a soft drink.
If it was the gold standard then why did Senomyx remove Pepsi’s name on their website? Why are they hiding who their partners really are and what are they hiding?
The Pro-Life Group Children of God for Life or (COGFL) which is targeting Pepsi Co for a boycott and have written the company protesting the use of human embryo cells in artificial flavorings in their soft drinks. The Pro-Life Director Debi Vinnedgre says:
“Pepsi and Senomyx have done everything in their power to trivialize what they are doing, when in fact what they are doing is only further damaging their public image”. The group have written to all of Pepsi’s board of directors to protect their shareholders interests, as they are funding the research for Senomyz but no response from the board was given.

What is even more strange is why the U.S. Patent Office is issuing patents for embryo fetal cells to be used in human food consumption and again we have to point the finger at the U.S. government for allowing patents on aborted baby fetal cells used in US foods and drinks. Could some of China’s pharmaceutical companies be making “stamina pills” from still born and aborted babies? After the airing of a documentary on the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) in South Korea on August 6, the Chinese Ministry of Health said August 9 they have launched an investigation in the province of Jilin on the issue, according to China Daily.
The Chinese Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into the alleged production of pills made from dead babies. (SBS via New Daily)
A rough translation (via Now Public) posted on the SBS schedule listing before the documentary aired revealed that dried baby remains may have been crushed and made into a capsule, that would boost stamina. The documentary team conducted DNA tests on the capsule’s contents and found 99.7 percent of the pill was composed of human remains. International Business Times reported that the team also identified hair, nails and the baby’s gender.
The documentary team, which claims to have taken video of the manufacturing process in China, quoted inside sources who said the capsules were mainly sent to South Korea.

It was not reported which hospital or city in China the team visited.
Phone calls to Customs in Jilin went unanswered on [August 9].
A professor at the Third Hospital of Jilin University said he has never heard of such cases in his two-decade career.
“It’s hard to comment, because it looks like a rumor,” said the professor, surnamed Zhang. “This is impossible from my professional judgement.”
Three traditional Chinese medicine experts and obstetrics doctors in Beijing and Shanghai contacted by China Daily said they have never heard of such cases and it seemed senseless.
It has long been a folk tradition to eat placentas in China. Placentas are believed to make up sperm and support the sufficiency of the blood in traditional Chinese medicine. In China, placentas belong to the mothers of the newborns. Medical institutions will handle a placenta if a mother gives it up or donates it. Nobody is allowed to sell or buy placentas according to the regulation from the Ministry of Health.
It has yet to be confirmed if the manufacturing of pills made from dead babies is actually taking place. But if so, it could be a grotesque discovery.

Japan scientist synthesizes meat from human feces

It’s being called the “poop burger”. Japanese scientists have found a way to create artificial meat from sewage containing human feces.
Somehow this feels like a Vonnegut plotline: population boom equals food shortage. Solution? Synthesize food from human waste matter. Absurd yes, but Japanese scientists have actually discovered a way to create edible steaks from human feces.
Mitsuyuki Ikeda, a researcher from the Okayama Laboratory, has developed steaks based on proteins from human excrement. Tokyo Sewage approached the scientist because of an overabundance of sewage mud. They asked him to explore the possible uses of the sewage and Ikeda found that the mud contained a great deal of protein because of all the bacteria.
The researchers then extracted those proteins, combined them with a reaction enhancer and put it in an exploder which created the artificial steak. The “meat” is 63% proteins, 25% carbohydrates, 3% lipids and 9% minerals. The researchers color the poop meat red with food coloring and enhance the flavor with soy protein. Initial tests have people saying it even tastes like beef.
Inhabitat notes that “the meatpacking industry causes 18 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions, mostly due to the release of methane from animals.” Livestock also consume huge amounts of resources and space in efforts to feed ourselves as well as the controversy over cruelty to animals. Ikeda’s recycled poop burger would reduce waste and emissions, not to mention obliterating Dante’s circle for gluttons.
The scientists hope to price it the same as actual meat, but at the moment the excrement steaks are ten to twenty times the price they should be thanks to the cost of research. Professor Ikeda understands the psychological barriers that need to be surmounted knowing that your food is made from human feces. They hope that once the research is complete, people will be able to overlook that ugly detail in favor of perks like environmental responsibility, cost and the fact that the meat will have fewer calories.

I have to get a very expensive shot every 3 months ($3000) that is designed to keep the PSI down and help to prevent a recurrence of the cancer. Has some uncomfortable side effects, and I was questioning the need to continue with it, which he assured me was necessary. He then asked how old I was, and when I replied 70, he said that if this legislation goes through as intended by the powers that be, that I probably would not be able to get it next year, as that would be money better spent on someone else with greater longevity. I would be referred to someone to “counsel” me.
I asked him why the AMA had recently endorsed the plan. He replied that only about 15% of the nation’s doctors were members of AMA, and most of them were not really on the front lines of doctorh ood but in some other areas of medicine. He said he was a member, but would not be after this membership year.
This man got part of his training in London , and practiced in Canada for 16 years before coming to the US , and he has no use for socialized medicine, regardless of how you wrap it, or what kind of bow to put on it. He said that we have a shortfall of around 400,000 doctors at the present time, and many of today’s doctors are of the baby boomer generation who are nearing retirement and/or will decide to hang it up rather than deal with the results this is sure to bring.

A Daddy’s Poem…
Her hair was up in a pony tail, Her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy’s Day at school,
And she couldn’t wait to go.
But her mommy tried to tell her,
That she probably should stay home ;
Why the kids might not understand,
If she went to school alone.
But she was not afraid;
She knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
Of why he wasn’t there today.
But still her mother worried,
For her to face this day alone.
And that was why, once again,
She tried to keep her daughter home.
But the little girl went to school ,
Eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees, a dad
Who never calls.
There were daddies along the wall in
Back, for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
Anxious in their seat.
One by one the teacher called
On a student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
As seconds slowly passed.
At last the teacher called her name,
Every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
A man who wasn’t there.
“Where’s her daddy at?”
She heard a boy call out.
“She probably doesn’t have one,”
Another student dared to shout.
And from somewhere near the back,

And saw him there that day.
And to her mother’s amazement,
She witnessed with surprise,
A room full of daddies and children,
All starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they saw before them;
Who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
They saw him at her side.
“I know you’re with me Daddy,”
To the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
Of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it,
For each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
Was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for
A moment, by the love of her shining star.
And given the gift of believing,
That heaven is never too far.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them.
Send this to the people you’ll never forget and remember to send it also to the person that sent it to you. It’s a short message to let them know that you’ll never forget them.
If you don’t send it to anyone, it means you’re in a hurry and that you’ve forgotten your friends.

Texas congressman Ron Paul was the biggest gainer in our Inside Facebook 2012 Election Tracker after the Republican presidential debate Thursday night — the last debate before the Iowa caucus on Jan. 3rd. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney also saw a surge after the debate, passing Newt Gingrich in daily new Likes for the first time in nearly a month.
Paul came into the debate rising in the polls, and he expressed strong anti-war views that might have led to increased activity on his Facebook page. Paul gained nearly twice as many new fans as Romney after the debate, though Romney continues to hold the lead as the most popular Republican presidential candidate with more than 1.2 million Likes.
Newt Gingrich’s Facebook growth ebbed and flowed slightly over the past week, as his national poll numbers dropped. Rick Perry saw a spike in new fans last weekend after the debate in Des Moines, but did not maintain momentum with this latest debate.
Herman Cain, who suspended his campaign amid allegations of sexual harassment and an extra-marital affair, continues to see a daily decrease in fans.

Ron Paul Wins GOP Twitter Primary, Pew Study Shows

NEW YORK — Ron Paul’s never garnered as much media attention as other Republican presidential candidates, even after placing second in the Ames Straw Poll and remaining at the top of the pack in Iowa. And when Paul’s name does come up on cable news chats, it’s often in the context of being unelectable or a fringe candidate.
For Paul, who’s long enjoyed a strong following online, the social media conversation has been much kinder than the national media’s coverage. Pew’s Project for Excellence for Journalism, in a new study analyzing more than 20 million election-related tweets from May through November, found that Paul “fared far better” than any other Republican candidate. Paul was referred to positively in 55 percent of the 1.1 million assessments about him on Twitter studied during this period. Only 15 percent of those assessments were negative, and 30 percent were neutral.
“This treatment of Paul stands in contrast to that of most of the GOP field, for whom Twitter has been a tough neighborhood,” the study found. “Five of Paul’s seven GOP rivals have had negative opinions on Twitter outstrip positive ones by roughly 2-1 or more.”
The “Twitter and the Campaign” study combined PEJ staffers’ traditional news analysis — which factors into each weekly Pew study — along with Crimson Hexagon’s computer algorithmic technology. Clearly, a handful of researchers couldn’t comb through the Twitter’s public “Firehose” data feed, which includes roughly 140 million tweets daily. So researchers examined a sample of tweets before coding, with the computer picking up on word patterns in tweets to determine if the candidate assessment was positive, negative or neutral.
Although Paul received the most positive response, he wasn’t the most talked about overall on the social media platform. Former Republican candidate Herman Cain — who the study found received the most U.S. media attention of any Republican candidate over the past seven weeks — came in first with 2.2 million assessments, albeit more negative than Paul’s.
Still, Republican candidates didn’t get nearly as many assessments as the man they hope to replace. But Obama also faced a lot of criticism from Twitter users. Of Obama’s 15 million assessments, the study found that the negative outweighed the positive 3-1. And yet, the study also noted that “Obama’s most sharply negative assessment has come from the news media, not social media,” echoing a previous study from October.

Ron Paul is headed to the ‘Tonight Show with Jay Leno’

Ron Paul (R-TX), a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, is headed to the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on December 16th. Mr. Paul will be visiting with Mr. Leno on the same night as his “Tea Party” money bomb.
Mr. Paul is not the first GOP candidate to appear on NBC’s “Tonight Show.” Pizza baron Herman Cain, who recently suspended his campaign due to numerous allegations of sexual impunity against him, visited the “Tonight Show” to discuss his comments about Muslims.
President Barack Obama also stopped by the “Tonight Show” in October to discuss the death of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and the negative reaction to his troop withdrawal announcement.
Mr. Paul and Mr. Leno will not be short on subject material as the Texas congressman just stunned political pundits by pulling even with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in the latest Public Policy Polling poll of Iowa GOP caucus voters. Mr. Paul garnered 21 percent of the votes, while Mr. Gingrich pulled in 22 percent of the votes. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who typically puts up a fight for second place, earned third place with 16 percent of the votes.
Mr. Paul’s supporters have organized the Texas congressman’s latest money bomb in an attempt to replicate the success of the December 16th 2007 money bomb. On that date, the Texas congressman raised more than $6 million in one day. While it is unclear whether Mr. Paul will pitch his latest money bomb on the “Tonight Show,” the Texas congressman’s appearance is likely to raise Mr. Leno’s ratings in the young adult demographic.
