Eau Oceanfront Resort & Spa, Manalapan FL

The Eau Resort & Spa my Dad, Richard D. Parkman built as Quality Control Superintendent / Major Domo with the Weitz Corp. Then  owned by Mall Magnate, Mel Simon of Simon-DeBartolo. Initially built & branded as a Ritz Carlton , a subsidiary of Marriott Intl. Bob Evans , American Motors Vice Chairman, as was Mitt Romney’s dad George, sold the La Coquille footprint to Norman Groh of Cherry Hills NJ who requested I finance  this project while I was AVP @ DeBartolo Financial circa 1986. Groh flipped it to Simon who secured funding through Shimizu. We also constructed the Plaza del Mar across A-1-A where Richard Scott founded The Ice Cream Club and Evelyn & Arthur’s flagship store opened. Brenda, my then fiance, was Asst. Manager there and in the Palm Beach shop.

Previous to the current Eau and Ritz, this parcel of land was a Rock Resort aka a Lawrence Rockefeller Resort. Larry’s son in law Spellman ran this Rock Resort. The resident General Manager was in the 1950’s Peter Bryce, developer of Bryce Mountain Resort north of Roanoke, VA. VA’s only FAA Fly-in, Snow Skiing & Golf Club Resort. Pete shared a memory with me. Often at the end of the night’s last call, he’d find a sleeping patron in the back booth in the shadows. So, Pete would gather him up in his Cadillac and deliver him to the patton’s Palm Beach estate, for this patron was none other than a junior Senator from Massachusetts, John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
